It may happen that the search engine friendly links do not work at Joomla. In this manual you will learn how to correct this error.
If you can't use search engine friendly links with Joomla, it's mostly due to a faulty or non-existent htaccess file.
The Joomla installation copies only one htacess.txt file to the server. Locate it in the root directory /htdocs from your FTP server and edit the file e.g. with the text editor.
Now locate the location in the file shown in the following screen.
Comment out the marked part as shown in the following screen and save the whole thing.
In some htaccess files you also have to comment out the following part as shown.
Then rename the file "htaccess.txt" to ".htaccess".
You can now use search engine friendly links in Joomla.
